Vol. 50 Youth Weekly – The Confession

We live in a world that doesn’t really think about what they say. One of the best examples is when someone is on trial in a court room and they are asked this question; “Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?” To which then they will usually say yes. But what follows after this? Well, usually the judge or jurors then have to look at the evidence that this person is bringing up to see if they are actually telling the truth or not.

Like I said, we live in a world that doesn’t really think about what they say. Now no, I am not about to talk about lying, though this would be a good segue into that subject. But we are going to talk about actually understanding something that we are supposed to say. Romans 10:9 states that one aspect that you have to do into order to be saved is to “…Confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord…”. We might just go on and say this, but what are we actually doing when we confess Jesus as Lord?

The definition of “Lord” is really more easily understood as “Master”. So this isn’t really an extra name for Jesus, as it is a title we give Him. He is Master! But then the question that must be asked is, Master of what? Yes, He is the Master of the world and everything in it. He is Master of the church, but more importantly in this moment, this confession is stating that He is Master of you. When we confess Jesus as Lord, then we are saying that Jesus is now going to rule over our lives. We are now a slave of Jesus, and whatever He says from here on out goes. When we confess Jesus as Lord of our lives, our choices and wishes don’t matter anymore, because He rules over us now.
